“American classics and Bohemian ideals” is where cool downtown brand Benson derives. Benson is for the citizen of the world, designed loosely on a transcontinental lifestyle from Europe to Manhattan. Boy oh boy do I love that lifestyle! For this Menswear Monday discover Benson…and note: they have something for us ladies too!
A little something for the gents on this fine Monday morning…or maybe every Monday from now on. As I mentioned last week, I have officially switched over to menswear in the fashion world and I’m loving it. Such great tailoring and everything full of detail. Not to mention the sexy men…bonus. Here are some things catching my eye for the stylish gentleman. What do you think of Menswear Monday mes cheris?
I believe a good man is complete with a great bag like this weekend duffle from Libero Ferrero and great shoes like these Hawkings McGill leather chambray oxfords. Great news is you can find the shoes at Urban Outfitters!
And of course in this rainy season with a fortunate break on Sunday one must be prepared at all times to pop up the umbrella and stay dry. Of course to stay dry and still maintain style is the truly accomplished gentleman so for this Menswear Monday do consider a great yet practical umbrella like this Barbour umbrella.
One of my coworkers came up with a brilliant idea yesterday that made for a promising weekend. A Seersucker & Sombrero Party! This Saturday the Kentucky Derby is actually taking place on Cinco de Mayo! The festivities will be to the max with this culture clashing opportunity, so be sure to embrace it!
The Kentucky Derby, long standing prep tradition that it is, will be the focus of my many bets, seersucker suits, and very large hats this weekend. I for one quite enjoy a man in a seersucker suit…blame it on my Southern upbringing but it just says Southern Gentleman. I also enjoy any socially acceptable opportunity to wear the most outrageous hat your heart desires…dream come true.
Cinco de Mayo AKA May 5th is Mexico’s Independence Day. Now I’m not Mexican, do not speak Spanish, and have never even been south of the border but I will say Cinco de Mayo provides one big party. I do love tequila and Corona although never together, and I may just have to add a few of those interspersed between my Kentucky Derby Mint Juleps this Saturday to properly salute both holidays.
I’ve been knee deep in menswear this week and will be from now on. I must say I was surprised the first time I worked in menswear as to how much I loved it. It’s all in the details, and everything is so impeccably crafted and elegantly classic, I cannot get enough. Here are some men’s fashion gems for your fancy.
Skip the shower and put on your best Above-it-all Hippie face (or as the French would say Bo Bo)…Coachella just swept through the dry warm weather of the West, leaving behind a stream of Hippie fashionspiration for all to carry into the summer months. Although all of these looks border on costumey for my personal taste, it is always fun to gather style inspiration from everywhere. So get some inspiration for the Summer from the Coachella Fashion of last month.
It has been quite a whirlwind year. The last 13 months of freelancing has had it’s major ups and it’s challenging downs but at the end of it I have loved all I’ve learned and the experiences I have come out on the other side with. I’m excited to say I start today, the next chapter in my life, I’ve decided to move to a permanent position for a men’s fashion tradeshow. It’ll be a new adventure to embark upon but I am excited to make the step and I can’t wait to report back to you all the fun stories.
On a side note. I went for a beautiful run yesterday among other productive errands to enjoy my last day off. I couldn’t help but stop and pick a dandelion to make a wish…it’s almost summer! And my lavender nails are compliments of Essie’s St. Lucia Lilac. Hope you like!
After playing frisbee barefoot in Central Park this past gorgeous New York City weekend, my inkling for some foot jewelry became stronger. I can’t say I’m much of a gypsy spirit but I do think barefoot sandals have quickly rose to the top of my Must Have list. I saw the idea over a decade ago in a wedding magazine for a barefoot beach wedding and the idea has always stuck with me. I was reminded when the recent Free People catalogue arrived at my apartment.
I’ve been whistling the tunes of my favorite Broadway songs in my apartment the last few days and it got me thinking about the fashionspiration you could pull straight out of the bright lights of Broadway. So one more time with feeling here is some great Broadway inspired fashion you can pull into your modern everyday style.
Menswear
The vested tuxedo feel of menswear is used directly in Newsies, as well as the glitter version in A Chorus Line. I personally love rocking a menswear look in my wardrobe. It feels empowering and sassy all at the same time.
1950’s
The full skirts of the 1950’s probably make for a Broadway costume designer favorite since they are dramatic and still free for the dancers’ choreography. I added a fedora which of course would have been what the men wore but hey how cute is a fedora with a sundress and wedges? Broadway inspired fashion is just that, inspired, so you don’t have to be literal like a costume.
It has been a windy couple of days to say the least. The wind sounds about as hectic as my life is right now, so I drop by today with an inspiring photo that is pleasant amidst the chaos.
