Menswear Inspiration

I’ve been knee deep in menswear this week and will be from now on. I must say I was surprised the first time I worked in menswear as to how much I loved it. It’s all in the details, and everything is so impeccably crafted and elegantly classic, I cannot get enough. Here are some men’s fashion gems for your fancy.

Which man suits you?

Coachella Fashion | Inspiration for the Summer

Skip the shower and put on your best Above-it-all Hippie face (or as the French would say Bo Bo)…Coachella just swept through the dry warm weather of the West, leaving behind a stream of Hippie fashionspiration for all to carry into the summer months. Although all of these looks border on costumey for my personal taste, it is always fun to gather style inspiration from everywhere. So get some inspiration for the Summer from the Coachella Fashion of last month.

Thank you Refinery 29 for catching the snap worthy Coachella Fashion for us all.

This look was my favorite. Bold mixed patterns, cropped top, high waisted shorts, and a turban on top!

What will you wear this Summer from the Coachella Fashion vault?

Here is my best friend and here is her scarf. I love them both.

One More Time with Feeling | Broadway Inspired Fashion

I’ve been whistling the tunes of my favorite Broadway songs in my apartment the last few days and it got me thinking about the fashionspiration you could pull straight out of the bright lights of Broadway. So one more time with feeling here is some great Broadway inspired fashion you can pull into your modern everyday style.

Newsies and A Chorus Line Inspiration

The vested tuxedo feel of menswear is used directly in Newsies, as well as the glitter version in A Chorus Line. I personally love rocking a menswear look in my wardrobe. It feels empowering and sassy all at the same time.

1950’s

1950s Broadway Inspiration

The full skirts of the 1950’s probably make for a Broadway costume designer favorite since they are dramatic and still free for the dancers’ choreography. I added a fedora which of course would have been what the men wore but hey how cute is a fedora with a sundress and wedges? Broadway inspired fashion is just that, inspired, so you don’t have to be literal like a costume.

Fashionspiration | New York City Downtown Fashion

Our New York City Spring weather has been doing the tango lately, beautiful and warm one day, then a kick you in the face wind and frigid temps the next. As a result I have been spotted lugging heavy coats around town to be prepared for such an occurrence. But regardless, I try to do so in style and this outfit is definitely a fav to say the least. Vintage rocker tee paired with girly skirt and heels? Now that is New York City Downtown fashion, the rocker chic that I love so much.
I stopped by the Meatpacking District for coffee with my friend Lord Ashbury and he snapped some shots while we hung out. He takes amazing photos and you should make his site a regular stop for some serious fashionspiration from New York City’s Finest…Fashionistas that is.
I do have to give credit to my new hue for the edge in this ensemble. I’m telling you, no matter what shade of red I go, I stand by my theory Red Heads Have the Most Fun!
Outfit Outline:
Vintage style Rolling Stones tee, Target.
Accordian pleat skirt, Banana Republic.
Vintage wool coat with rabbit trim.
Fringe boots, Steve Madden
New York City downtown fashion is easy. Start with something casual, add something girly.
I prefer pops of really bright color. Layer on lots of embellished things, frige, studs, ruffles, etc.
Top with fur… and heels!

Oh and these are my new round sunnies! I Love them, don’t you? They are very fully clothed Lady Gaga.  Although I must confess, I am the worst at remembering my sunnies. I use them as purely an accessory and I often leave the house without a thought to jewelry or eyewear…terrible fashionista, I know!
Do you rock the New York City downtown fashion?

Fashionspiration Friday | Rooftop Season

It’s that time of year again, the flowers are blooming, the sun is kissing faces, and the rooftops are open again with awesome Manhattanites lounging with artistic cocktails in hand! The Spring and Summer in New York City are my absolute favorite and it’s what keeps me going through the Winter. Here’s a fun Spring outfit for the office to beat out the fluorescent lighting.

Neon is hot hot hot for Spring/Summer and this neon sequined tank from Urban Outfitters reminds me of a highlighter…but one I really like making notes with! To top it off with this bold cobalt blue pleated Banana Republic skirt, I’m in girly heaven. With some gold chains and accessories I am ready to go. And don’t forget a rugged denim jacket for when the office is chilly. This ultra faded Levi’s red tab jacket is cropped, ripped, and fabulous.

And don’t forget the most important part… shoes! Look how adorable my pink suede Charlotte Ronson shoes are?! I love them, they are the perfect amount of girly and put an extra skip in my step.

I had the priveledge this week of working in the iconic 4 Times Square Conde Nast Building where fashion legends have graced the halls. I am at Glamour Magazine and the team here is amazing, I love coming in to work. Here is a peak at my view of Times Square all day. Also since the weather has been amazing, I have had lunch in Bryant Park everyday this week! Sitting by the fountain, overlooking the great lawn, and the architectural gem that is the New York Public Library…it just does not get old. Here is a pic for you of my little piece of heaven.

The Hunger Games | Jennifer Lawrence Style

May the odds be ever in your favor as I hope you have already read The Hunger Games and have become as obsessed as I have. Are you ready for the movie? Well Katniss, Gale, and Peeta will grace the silver screen this Friday and Panem waits with breath that’s baited. But I’ll tell you what else I can’t get over, the Jennifer Lawrence style that is gracing every magazine lately! I spy a new fashion muse on the horizon, watch out Blake Lively!

As I was flipping through this month’s Glamour magazine, my jaw dropped when I got to this page. The Jennifer Lawrence feature for The Hunger Games. Doesn’t every woman want a picture of herself…this powerful and sexy all in one? I am loving the black jumpsuit.

The Jennifer Lawrence style so far has been very guilded, maybe a tip to some upcoming awards n’est-ce pas? Regardless, I’m loving the funky twist on the Old Hollywood glamour dress she rocked at The Hunger Games movie premiere. And look at that hairstyle! I will be trying that in the VERY near future.

Her co-stars Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson are certainly hotties. I have a feeling I will be just as torn between this love triangle in the movie as I was in the book. For those of you who have yet to read it…you have no idea! You must read The Hunger Games as soon as possible and then go see the film. Be sure to rock your best guilded Jennifer Lawrence style to the theatre and send me a picture!

Oh…and a little movie tidbit. The Hunger Games was filmed in Charlotte, NC. My hometown! I was so excited when I heard this, I cannot wait (even more) to see the movie!

Happy Hunger Games!
May the odds be ever in your favor!

What I Wore | St. Patrick’s Day Weekend

It was a beautiful St. Patrick’s Day weekend and I hope you celebrated properly. NYC was built by the Irish and since I am Irish it’s even more fitting to really get in to the celtic mood! I took a weekend break and headed out to Connecticut with a bestie for some needed R+R. What I wore was demanding the Spring weather stick around for a long time.

I rocked fun color with my floral print crop top sweater, thanks Beacon’s Closet, Brooklyn. Perfect for a subtle touch of St. Patrick’s Day green. This cobalt blue accordion pleat skirt from Banana Republic is the latest fav of my wardrobe and is perfection with the top. This weekend I switched out my Winter wardrobe for my Spring wardrobe…one of my favorite things to do! I love finding my favorite clothes that I forgot about since August. And I LOVE pairing my old favorites with my new favorites, as in this case!

Then armed with lots of bangles, skinny watches, and a cobalt beaded necklace,
I was ready for a Guinness!
My bestie represented her Irish roots very well with a deep emerald green. You cannot go wrong with a high to low dress especially when it has that gorgeous cutout trim!

I spy with my Old Hollywood obsessed eye an iconic Upper East Side apartment….can you guess who lived here? This is the apartment of Audrey Hepburn as Holly GoLightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s! This is one of my all time favorite movies and walking down this block feels like they are about to yell action and I will Audrey Hepburn herself stroll down the stairs in her Little Black Dress, hat, and diamonds. It gives me chills to live in a city that is so iconic and special. I just love NYC.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day | Irish Green Outfit Inspiration

I cannot believe it has been a year since last St. Patrick’s Day! It is more significant for me because a year ago today was when I got laid off and had to begin my game plan for finally working in the fashion industry. This economy seems to really throw some harsh blows…but if you can stand the pressure, the reward is great. In honor of my Canniversary I thought I would keep it optimistic with some great green outfit inspiration ideas for your St. Patty’s Day ensemble! I am Irish afterall…this is an important holiday!
