What I Did This Weekend: The Oscars, The Artist, The Lower East Side

This was the most jam packed weekend I have had since New Year’s, mainly because New York Fashion Week does tend to demand 100% of your social life. So apparently I managed to fit 2 months of social events into 2 days. What I did this weekend started with a band in the Lower East Side and lots of catch up with good friends, followed by seeing The Artist in an iconic NYC theatre, and ended (very late) with a viewing of the 84th Annual Academy Awards! And I found that The Oscars did not disappoint!

The dresses from The Oscar’s Red Carpet this year were pretty (I have a few of my favs below, in no particular order) but I must say I was far more excited (and impressed) with the movie round-up for this year’s Academy Awards.

Well one movie at The Oscars that blew me away, The Artist, a classic silent film, was beautiful, enrapturing, and truly unique. A marvelous tribute to the magic of the movies and how you should feel when you experience a film. I walked across Central Park to the NYC icon The Paris Theatre (the French theatre Carrie visits in Sex and the City) and was transported into movie magic by the ambience and the incredible film that was The Artist! Here’s a snippet in case you are behind…

I also ventured to the Lower East Side, the grunge hip Manhattan neighborhood known for vintage shopping, tattoo parlors, and lots ‘o bars, and met up with a few friends to hear a new band. (I love New York). Stephie Coplan and the Pedestrians ended up being really fun. Catchy songs with a less hateful Lily Allen sense of humor, these guys put on a fun show! Please be sure to give their single Jerk a listen! The Lower East Side is so great for diving into a bar and discovering musicians. We happened to be invited to The Living Room for a listen and I’m glad we did!

Oh and I almost forgot to mention…did anyone miss Angelina Jolie’s Barbizon leg at The Oscars? I was already laughing the second she stood still. But in case you missed it…there is a twitter account created in her honor…@AngiesRightLeg. I died laughing when I saw this tweet. In 10 minutes it had 1,600 followers by the end of the night it had accrued 6,500 followers and counting. I’m so glad someone finally called her out on her bullshhh…well you know. But in all seriousness…she really needs to eat a burger, the girl looks terrible.

What did you do this weekend?

Golden Globes 2012: Best and Worst Dressed

Well the awards season is officially in full swing and that means lots of great red carpet moments we are all on the edge of our seats to see. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed by the Golden Globes 2012 last night. Of course there were pretty gowns by a few, but as a whole I was unimpressed by the red carpet fashion. The best and worst dressed run down goes as follows…

Best Dressed Runners Up

Claire Danes worked the simple in the front, statement in the back look with this bedazzled J.Mendel gown. I actually really liked the dress but it didn’t Wow me enough to make the top.

*Thank you MovieFone for the instant photo access of everyone*

Katharine McPhee certainly has me excited for her new show “Smash”about making it on Broadway, secret dream career of mine, and I love her elegant nude ensemble a la Mrs. Donna Karen.

Reese Witherspoon took the red carpet by storm in this classic red Zac Posen show stopper. The sweetheart neckline and tailored detail fits America’s Sweetheart to a T.

Best Dressed

But out of all the worthy adversaries, I must give my Golden Globes 2012 Best Dressed Award to Sofia Vergara in her absolutely stunning Vera Wang gown. Navy blue has always been a favorite color choice of mine for evening gowns since it’s still a dark statement but not as often done, and add the crazy curves of Vergara and the feminine embellishment of Wang and you have a red carpet homerun!

Worst Dressed Runners Up

Ok, in their defense the clothing itself is not terrible, but could Brad and Angelina be any more unhappy? They look like two statues from Madame Toussaud’s made a jail break! The white in this Atelier Versace gown just clashes with Angelina’s skin making her look washed out, and with touches of that harsh fire engine red…not working for her. I’m sorry you get to sashay down the red carpet at the Golden Globes…at least look a little grateful.

I actually did some extra research for Julianna Margulies to find a flattering picture of her in this eggplant Naeem Khan gown. Naeem Khan is one of my favorite designers…but this gown makes Julianna actually look like an eggplant, she is one big column with no curve, no shape. There is a gorgeous deep V in the back which normally gets my vote every time. This Worst Dressed nom makes me sad.

Madonna almost had something lovely with the start of this Reem Acra gown, but what craft project went awry on bottom?

Stylist mishap for Lea Michele in this Marchesa gown. Let’s touch quickly on the fact that her hair and makeup styling makes her look like a man rather than the TV diva she is.  Moving on, Marchesa… again, one of my favorite designers… but didn’t we learn from Rose McGowan’s Dental Floss dress at the 1998 VMA’s that showing too much can be a bad idea? But true, that is extreme and sheer can be done correctly…even if that’s the argument…Halle Berry already wore a better version of this dress at the 2002 Oscar’s. Note: If it has been done, don’t try a repeat.

Worst Dressed

Although our Worst Dressed Runners Up so far are mainly for ill fitting or color qualms, Sarah Michelle Gellar in this tie dyed Monique Lhuillier gown has its own problems. A big dress with a big print, allows no room for anyone to win, so sadly that just leaves one very lonely Worst Dressed at the Golden Globes 2012. And that’s a shame because I love Buffy.

Did you enjoy the Golden Globes 2012? I personally had the channel surf between the awards show and the amazing Once Upon a Time, gotta hate it when shows double book. Overall, I thought the red carpet fashion last night fell a little flat, and have high hopes for the Oscar’s to redeem the awards season next Tuesday.

Who was your Best and Worst Dressed?

Oscar Red Carpet Fashion: Best Dressed and Worst

A ritual girl’s night commenced last night as the Oscar’s 83rd award ceremony was held. Of course the only reason I watch it is for the Red Carpet Fashion…who was the best dressed and who was the worst dressed? Here’s my rundown:

THE BEST DRESSED…
Anne Hathaway did a nice job hosting the Oscars and began the night in a stunning Archival Valentino gown…and standing here with the Emperor himself I’d say its a big YES!

Little Hailee Steinfeld (Supporting Actress Nom) made her Red Carpet debut in a stunning Marchesa gown. And might I say, refreshingly age appropriate, she was the essence of beauty in a lovely styled updo and clean makeup. Bravo!

I loved Scarlet Johannason (as I usually do) in her fitted feminine choices, and this Dolce & Gabbana was no exception!
Oprah was full-figured perfection in her hour glass Zac Posen
Amy Adams has quickly become my favorite Red Carpet lady. I am already a big fan of navy blue as evening luxe but this L’Wren Scott was to die for and then topped of with $1.3million of Cartier jewels…a girl could do worse!

Jennifer Hudson had my jaw dropped as she strutted the Red Carpet in this Atelier Verasace
Her new body has definitely been the talk of the town (although I personally feel she has gotten a little too skinny) but in this classic red number it is the perfect nod to the golden age of Hollywood.
AND THE WINNER IS….
BEST DRESSED in my opinion was by far Mila Kunis in this stunning Elie Saab (go figure – he is my fav)!
Modern and interesting yet elegant and refined Mila was a supreme example of red Carpet decadence!
And now for the worst dressed

Although I have heard mixed reviews about Cate Blanchett‘s Givenchy gown, I have to say I am not a fan. It has beginnings of things I might like, but the overly boxy beaded embroidery feels like its trying too hard and the empty frame on her chest that just leaves you wanting…of what I’m not sure…I just couldn’t wrap my understanding around this one.

As far as styling goes, I must say Gwenyth Paltrow more than disappointed me. First in this streamlined Calvin Klein Collection and then in what could be a nice Michael Kors she seems to have just slipped into her gowns after a day of errands at the mall. Straight, forgotten hair, and an overly tanned, blond mix made me feel like she was channeling Red Carpet Barbie rather than Oscar winning extraordinaire.

AND THE WORST DRESSED WINNER IS…

Melissa Leo, Winning Supporting Actress for The Fighter, accepted her speach dropping the F Bomb, mirroring her choice in fashion taste as well. As Tim Gunn was interviewing her on the Red Carpet I was at a loss of words for the stiff doily by Marc Bouwer, she had decided as her Big Night Gown!

To end on a happy note, as I am almost never negative on my blog, please enjoy the opening video number to the Oscar’s by hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco. I thought it was quite funny and perfect for the night.

Fashion Week: Fashion 2.0 Awards

Fashion Week is rocking on, no matter the weather of the city nor energy level of its participants…fortunately the weather is shaping up to a warm breezy weekend! Just in time for all involved to relax with a well deserved New York City Brunch and stroll in Central Park! The Fashio 2.0 Awards happened last night and of course I was there to capture the inspiration for you!
 Outfit #6: Rockstar Glam!
This look is definitely a combination of my inner rockstar side
The creme de la creme being my Glam Vintage 80s Belt dug out of a thrift store!
French Chanel Inspired Tweed Skirt
BCBG Sparkly Stilettos (some may call my Birthday Shoes) and
Mossimo Silver Top
The night brought an eclectic group of people who I enjoyed meeting very much!
Whether it was a glitzy Anthropologie blazer, or the sweet Jackie O stylings (how I wish those days would come back again) from Heather from Combine Couture the night definitely did not disappoint.

Sharp dressed men pulled out all the stops from great detail to bright colors like
Donn at Donn Sterling Menswear and Ben at Faster Pants.
Whether its the LBD and sassy heels or the romantic drapings of Yuli Ziv, co-founder of Style Coalition
the night was a wonderful event for honoring great companies making strides in the fashion industry.
And one award was presented by the lovely Gala Darling! It has been beyond inspiring this week
to see all the progress blogging has made in such a short time. Taking over the fashioniverse…one post at a time. Vogue…beware!

Blogger Award!

I received a very lovely Blogger Award last week from the fabulous Kori over at Blonde Episodes! Thank you very much Kori, it was so sweet of you to bestow this fab award. As per Kori’s request, here are my answers to the blogger award questions…

1. What inspires you?
Everything under the sun. People watching. Old Hollywood Movies. Wrought Iron Fences. European Architecture. Snow. Sunshine. Dance. And the never ending inspiration from my home…New York City.

{merci weheartit}

2. What is your favorite season and why?
Autumn. (Although not far behind is Summer) Because the gorgeous rich oranges, reds, and yellows are intoxicating, the weather is just perfect for strolling. And I get to start wearing my favorite ensembles with my fabulous boots before it gets to cold to cover them up with coats everyday.

3. What are you most looking forward to this year?
New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center…Less than 10 blocks from my apartment!

4. If you could write a book about anything, what would you write about?
Funny you should ask…I actually am beginning to conceptualize the book I DO want to write! I want to write a fiction book about a modern day twenty something woman, and I’d also like to publish a travel/photography coffee table book with my work in it.

{merci weheartit}

5. What is your greatest passion?
Traveling!! I can’t ever get enough adventure! I feed off of new places to see, and document through my camera lens. As I’m on a trip I’m already taking notes on where I can go next. Travel fuels the inspiration for every aspect of my life, I just love learning new cultures.

6. If you could change one thing about your life or yourself what would it be and why?
Hmm. My life is getting pretty close to what I want as of now already which is a nice feeling. I would say landing my dream job in marketing in the Fashion industry.

7. Lastly, what is your favorite novel?
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I could read about Mr.Darcy over and over and over again!

So now I will be passing the torch on to some other deserving bloggers myself! These are all some new finds of mine that I loved discovering and hope you will too!

Etsy Front Page!

I was very surprised yesterday when I received a message yesterday on my Etsy photography shop. The Trim Goddess created a wonderful Treasury called The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, as an homage to Sweden and the wonderful book (& series) by Stieg Larsson. I was very honored to have my photo of a little street in Stockholm, Road Less Traveled, included in the mix. Well yesterday that wonderful treasury made it to the Front Page of Etsy! This is the first front page honor for either of my shops and I am super excited!

There is lots more to discover at
darlings so browse around and remember to stay tuned for more!

Kreativ Blogger Award

What better way to start off the week than by divying out awards? I came back from my wonderful travels to the good ol USofA to find I had received a wonderful little blog award from Christina of Consider the Coffee!! Thanks girl!
Upon receiving this award I have to share 7 things I have never shared before…hmm lots of possibilities!

1. I live for thrills in life and am always seeking new exciting things to do. Right before I graduated college, I went skydiving with a friend and it was AWESOME! I will definitely be doing this again.
2. I am a constant contradiction: I’m very girly, but love camping and being outdoors; I’m a huge chocoholic, but really hate regular milk choc bars (they’re boring), just for a couple examples.
3. My secret dream career has always been a Broadway Star! My dream role would be Eliza DoLittle in My Fair Lady.
4. Since I was 12 years old I have wanted to be a Fashion Designer and own my own Wedding and Evening Gown clothing line (that dream is still around).
5. I LOVE weddings! I have bought wedding magazines randomly ever since I was a little girl, I really love event planning, and I get so many great ideas and inspirations for parties and dress design by looking through them!
6. I love dressing up! Probably why Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, I love theme parties and any reason to where an outfit that is out of the ordinary. I always make my own costumes for these events which makes it 10 x’s more fun.
7. I enjoy little things that can make life fancy, for example drinking my tea out of really beautiful china, or sleeping on really nice sheets. Its the little details that can make you feel like a Queen.
Well that was fun! Now I will pass this lovely award onto 7 bloggers…

One Lovely Blog Award

My lovely blogger friend Travelling Amber recently bestowed on me this lovely award. She is an ex-pat living in France and has some very funny stories and insight on the comedic life of living in a foreign country full-time! Thank you Amber for the honor.

As instructed, I will now be passing this award along to my Fav Five Bloggers out there!

#1 Couture Carrie – An amazing fashionista (and absolute sweetheart) that always blogs on great style on and off the runways. This is a blog I read religiously!
#2 Cheap Chica’s Guide to Style – Lilliana has a true gift for finding what is “in” and at a price your wallet can also be happy about. She is truly what us women need in an economic time like this!
#3 Cheyenne Shultz Photography – To say Cheyenne is gifted with a camera is still doing a huge injustice to the amount of talent this lovely lady has! I visit her blog frequently to look at stunning pictures that inspire me in numerous ways. And in my mind she is already booked for my future engagement, bridal, and wedding pictures.

#4 My Structured Chaos – Ladi Patti is so sweet and a joy to work with. She posts inspiring photography, and wonderful shops she finds on Etsy. I love checking in on her latest finds!

#5 Threadbanger – If you have not experienced Threadbanger yet, your life is not complete. TB is my numero uno go-to site for crafting. Here you can find any how-to for a handmade craft, be it sewing, knitting, diy, the sky is the limit!
