Artful Weekend | Brooklyn Street Artist

Be inspired by Brooklyn Street artist, Dain today. And whisk your way into a bright and delightful weekend. It has certainly been a busy and exhausting week…at least that makes the days fly by right?

I love beautiful art.

Fashionspiration: Neon Colors

On this bright happy Friday, I thought I would bring some bright happy Fashionspiration your way! I’ve seen lots of neon being worn around the office and its nice to have something other than fluorescent lights  to brighten the place up. Enjoy the colorful inspiration…

Tapping In To Your Inner Artist: Charcoal Drawing

I spent five and a half hours yesterday drawing…that’s right the better part of my working day was spent on a commissioned charcoal drawing! It has been so fabulous to dig back into my art supplies and reek havoc on a piece of blank paper! I just love the feeling of having charcoal in your hands, running it haphazardly along, swiping it here and there, blending it across the paper. Charcoal is such a wonderfully messy medium, I get excited just thinking about it. Here are some things that hopefully will get you tapping in to your inner artist!

You’ll see that the content is all people, because that is my thing. I am just captivated by people, in fact people watching is a favorite past time of mine. You may not know, but I was originally an Art Studio major before I changed to Marketing, so my degree actually holds a minor in Art Studio. All of the artwork in my room is my own work from college and after. Charcoal drawings, ceramic vases, black and white photography, it lends for some great home decor. The subjects vary according to the medium of course, but each piece maintain a romantic nostalgic feel, because that is what pours from my soul.

“Tapping in to your inner artist is something very important to do, no matter what your profession. It allows you to never be wrong which grants you the power to create the impossible and let that bridge you to your new destination.” ~Jessica

Interior Inspiration: The Art of Gossip Girl

Lately I’ve indulged my baser instincts and pulled out the fundamental Gossip Girl seasons 1 & 2 from the DVD rack for some fashion inspiration and beautiful boys to stare at while eating dinner. I find the sets are such great interior inspiration that I must indulge in a bit of artist background. The powers that be in Gossip Girl land are always looking to bring in local factoids of New York City and especially to highlight hip NYC artists that are noteworthy for the Bass, Humphrey, Van der Woodsen clans.

Here are some of the sets where some interior inspiration may just jump directly on to the walls of my living room.

To begin there is debatably my favorite, the Richard Phillips “Spectrum” print that hangs over the staircase of the Van der Woodsen apartment. It is a statement piece that sets the mod chic elegance of the whole art-filled home.

My other favorite (they constantly tie for first) is the Richard Phillips “Scout” print hanging in Chuck Bass’s bedroom. I had no idea these two prints were the same artist so it is funny, although I suppose not surprising, that they are both equally my favorite.

The entryway also showcases some other great pieces that I love, but that don’t quite hypnotize me the same.

 The Prada sign print by Elgmreen and Dragset may be the most prominent artwork among Lily’s collection as it is a bold piece directing any guests straight into the drama of their home.

{Thank you Sogni e Sorrisi for your  artists finds}

This Jessica Craig Martin print is actually quite good. I like the color choice, the appropriate modern feel of the fashion world as well as the interesting crop in the composition that has taken place. The dramatic crop makes you wonder about the lives of the portrait’s subjects…I like art that makes me wonder.

What art is your interior
inspiration of the moment?

Savage Beauty: The Exhibit of Alexander McQueen

Spotted, on the steps of The Met, basking in the sun and ready to take in the beauty of her once beloved designer’s collection, Blogger Girl is beaming in the beauty of The City in the summer… As promised my darlings, I am reporting back on the phenomenal Alexander McQueen Exhibit at The Met!

Savage Beauty is from start to finish my favorite fashion exhibit thus far. Alexander McQueen was a true visionary, an artist whose medium was clothing. Constantly pulling from all art forms for his fashion shows, he was notorious for Wowing his audience time and time again. Every collection was a complete 180 from the last. He was truly the darling of the fashion world and set the bar high as he ushered us in to the next century of style.

At The Metropolitan Museum of Art, between now and August 7th, you can explore the inner workings of Alexander McQueen up close and personal. I never thought in my life I would get to study his entire collection at one time, in one space…much less at all. But to see all the intricate folds, impeccable tailoring, and even a summary of the background of the collections was so inspiring. These are the things I dreamed of studying in my school classes, I’m so glad I get to study them for fun now!

{merci johnsimondaily.com for all exhibit photos}

{Merci The Cut}

I seriously cannot impress upon you enough how utterly amazing this exhibit is. If you are in New York this summer you simply must stop by and take it all in. And if you are, let me know!! I will definitely need to be booking time to see this again!

NYC Digs: This Weekend: International Pillow Fight & Japan Auction

This weekend held a smorgasbord of festivities here in NYC. The International Pillow Fight took place in Union Square along with an Art Auction Fundraiser for Japan in the Lower East Side. I hopped around to many things here and there from the Gansevoort Hotel in the Meatpacking District to a wonderful walk along the Hudson River on Sunday, capping off a perfect start to the first real Spring weekend NYC has yet to see for 2011.

Feathers rained from the ground up as crazy pillow fighters went all out. My friends got very into the fun as you can see…camo-check, double pillows-check, game face-check-check!

The Art Auction for Japan was in a random hole in the Lower East Side, as most things are, and super cool. Hip music provided the perfect setting for this broad range of art for a cause. I loved that there was an artist creating his piece on-site.

 My favorite was the painting of the blonde it emitted so much emotion. The 3D mixed media piece of a city building was by far the most interesting and intricate. Every detail was accounted for from tiny trash bags to the interior spaces in each window…and it was all from recycled material!

Did you have a great weekend mes cheries?

NYC Digs: Gallery Opening

From years of being a die hard Sex & The City fan, there are many things on my NYC Bucket List a la Carrie Bradshaw and the gang. It occurred to me a few weeks back that I have yet to attend a New York Gallery Opening. After meeting a new friend who works for the Susan Inglett Gallery in Chelsea, I learned they had a gallery opening coming up, so I immediately made plans to check it out!

Although much more artsy then the TV glam of SATC, I still had a really great time! I hope you enjoy the pop art inspiration from artist Hope Gangloff!

Be sure to keep up with Susan Inglett Gallery for more fun happenings!

Holy Mixed Media Batman!

Darlings, I love art. Art Studio was my minor in college and I logged many hours happy, albeit caffeine induced, in my university’s studio building drawing, sculpting, and processing film. So when I come along an artist whom I really admire I love to showcase them to my loves…you!

Sandhi Schimmel Gold recently came across my inbox and I was tres triste to find I had missed her showing in NYC! I would love to see her work at a gallery event! Maybe she will be back soon…

{Merci Schimmel Art for the pics}

Mixed media normally grabs my attention, but the way Gold has mixed Fashion Pop Art with it has resulted in a stunning collection. Edgy, unique and utterly demure I am officially smitten. If only one could be hanging on my exposed brick wall I do believe my Manhattan Bachelorette Pad would be complete! For her works in process and her inspirations you can also check out her blog here.

Paris vs NYC

It is interesting to me how depending on the personality, each person will have a different opinion of what the greatest city is. For me, there is no competition to New York City being the most exciting city on the planet. As much as I love Rome for its ancient beauty, Paris for its romance and London for its edgy eccentricity… New York is the place with the excitement, the art, the massive diverse culture, the in-your-face, fast paced excitement that I thrive off of in life. I am learning more and more that I can find a shop or restaurant of anything I may be seeking…of course I will never forsake traveling to the actual cultural origin (traveling is my first love) but for a place to call home, New York takes the cake.
I discovered this graphic artist Vahram Muratyan last week who has done a wonderful rendition of Paris vs New York and I think it is a great graphic print series. You can find more prints as he adds them on his blog Paris vs NYC.
